The Dutch tactician was pictured spending a night out with the iconic Scottish manager just two days before the showdown with the Blaugrana.

Erik ten Hag is currently focused on Manchester United's upcoming game, a highly-anticipated UEFA Europa League showdown with continental rivals Barcelona. However, while that match is of utmost priority, the boss still managed to meet one special man ahead of this tie.

That person is none other than Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest manager in Premier League history — and, arguably, the best in the history of club football. The pair were pictured together at a restaurant on Tuesday, two days before the match against the Blaugrana, with the image of the two now going viral on social media.

And the reason is obvious. Ten Hag is quickly establishing himself as one of the best tacticians in world football and to see him spending a night out with Sir Alex understandably brought a smile to the faces of Manchester United fans.

But what was the purpose behind this meeting? Speaking ahead of Thursday's clash with the Catalan giants, the former Ajax boss was asked the question and he did not shy away from giving an honest and humble answer during his press conference.

"It is massive (to have his support)," the 53-year-old said.

"I always enjoy speaking with those who have a lot of knowledge, and experience. He wants to share it. He feels Man Utd is his club, he is so committed, he wants us to do well. It was a great night, I look forward to the next one."

Despite retiring back in 2013, the iconic Scottish manager remains an intrinsic piece at Manchester United. The 81-year-old, who guided the Red Devils to their last Premier League title, often attends the club's home games and is destined to be in the stands for the 2nd leg clash with Barcelona.

The Premier League giants drew 2-2 in the first leg at Camp Nou, with Marcus Rashford getting on the scoresheet while Jules Kounde netted an own goal. However, Marcos Alonso and Raphinha helped the Spanish Primera Division leaders avoid defeat.

With the away-goal rule having been abolished, a goalless or one-all draw will not suffice for the Red Devils. If Rashford and Co. wish to make the round of 16 of this tournament, then they will need to beat Xavi's side at the Theatre of Dreams.

Fortunately, Ten Hag's men have been in exceptional form this season, particularly at home, with Manchester United being unbeaten at Old Trafford since their controversial 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League group stage back in September. This means the Blaugrana will be in for a tough time when they visit the Red Devils.
