The teenager earned a crucial point for Los Blancos with his leveller in the draw with Atletico Madrid.

18-year-old Alvaro Rodriguez landed a personal with his contribution for Real Madrid in Saturday night's derby clash with Atletico. In what was the Castilla striker's second-ever appearance for the Los Blancos, he earned them a crucial point by scoring a late equaliser to ensure that spoils were shared at Santiago Bernabeu.

Having shipped five goals past Liverpool in the mid-week's Champions League affair, Real Madrid were expected to give their neighbours a run for their money and secure all the bragging rights. However, things did not go in the direction anticipated by neutrals, with goals being at a premium for the most part of the match-up.

The hosts thought they had the upper hand following Angel Correa's sending off in the 64th minute, but it was Atletico who took a shock lead in the 78th minute through Jose Gimenez. The Uruguay defender, who replaced the injured Reinildo Mandava in the first half, rose past everyone else in the penalty box and nodded it home after he was left unmarked.

Barely a minute before the game's first goal, Carlo Ancelotti had introduced young Alvaro Rodriguez into the fray, and it was the striker who eventually saved the night for the Merengues. In almost the same manner as the Atletico goal, the Uruguayan rose above everyone else to meet Luka Modric's cross with a thumping header inside the 85th minute. With the goal, he became the club's youngest player to score in the Madrid derby. Gonzalo Higuain previous held the record after scoring the fixture at the age of 19 years and 76 days in 2007.
