Manchester United and Arsenal are two clubs on the hunt for midfield reinforcement this summer. While the likes of Declan Rice and Frenkie de Jong have been linked with the two sides, a recent report from the Daily Mail claims that the Red Devils and the Gunners are eyeing one of the top-flight's hottest young midfielders.
That player is Romeo Lavia, the Southampton sensation signed from Manchester City just this summer. While the teenager has missed a number of games due to injury, he has shown his quality, both on the ball and defensively, in every game for the Saints.
In fact, the player has reportedly already been subject to interest from Chelsea. After witnessing his mesmeric performance in the Blues' 2-1 loss at St. Mary's Stadium earlier this season, the London giants lodged a bid for the 19-year-old less than two months after signing for Southampton.
Todd Boehly and Co. are still following Lavia. However, according to the Daily Mail, they have been joined by Manchester United and Arsenal, two clubs that appear destined to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, unlike Chelsea.
Southampton are currently in a relegation battle and should the Saints go down, then an exit could become a reality for Lavia. Manchester City have a buy-back clause worth £40M ($48M) but that does not come into effect until next summer. This means Romeo's suitors could land the Belgian ace while Southampton can negotiate a valuable sale.
It should be noted, however, that the teenager isn't the no.1 option for the Gunners. The Premier League leaders are prioritizing a move for Declan Rice and might only intensify their pursuit of the 19-year-old should they miss out on the Englishman.
Manchester United, on the other hand, remain keen on Frenkie de Jong and also hold interest in the aforementioned West Ham captain. Chelsea, meanwhile, could return for the player this summer, which could spark an interesting transfer battle.
