Antonio Conte's side will need to overturn a 1-0 deficit if they want to avoid being eliminated early from this season's Champions League.

Tottenham will need to overturn a narrow 1-0 deficit if they want to keep their Champions League hopes alive. The English giants lost for the first time in five meetings to AC Milan last month, with a solitary goal from Brahim Diaz enough to give the Rossoneri a slender advantage in what is their first appearance in the round of 16 in nearly a decade.

While it may appear that Milan do have the advantage, some curious stats indicate that all may not be as it seems. Not only have Milan won just one of their last 21 away European ties in England, with 13 defeats along the way, but Conte has a solid track record when it comes to facing the Diavolo on his own home turf, with five wins in his last six meetings across all competitions.

Tottenham's form leading up to this match leaves something to be desired, however. While they bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Milan with two consecutive 2-0 wins over fellow London sides West Ham and Chelsea, they slipped up in the FA Cup to Sheffield and were beaten 1-0 by Wolves over the weekend. Of concern will be avoiding another early Champions League exit - albeit, interestingly enough, Spurs have progressed from two of their last three knockout ties in which they have lost the first leg. However, they have some major worries with first-choice shot-stopper Hugo Lloris still out due to a long-term injury.

Meanwhile, Milan also suffered a loss at the weekend as Stefano Pioli's side were beaten 2-1 by Fiorentina to put a dent in their hopes to secure a top four spot as the Scudetto looks set to be wrested from their grasp by a Napoli side who have surprised and impressed many observers this season. Despite their poor track record in England, the Diavolo will hope that with key players like Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan returning to the fold, they will be able to successfully avoid more disappointment on English soil and secure their spot in the final eight of this season's competition.
