Spurs have been heavily criticised for their poor performance against Milan following their exit from the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur have come under heavy criticism by fans on social media after their uninspiring performance in the UEFA Champions League second leg clash with AC Milan led to their elimination. Antonio Conte's side was sent packing following a 0-0 draw with the Rossoneri who ended an 11-year wait to feature in the quarter finals of the European cup with an aggregate win.

Spurs suffered the consequences of their poor start once again, allowing AC Milan to settle into the game easily. The agony was compounded when defender Cristian Romero received his marching orders after earning a second yellow for a reckless tackle on Theo Hernandez.

Despite the turn of events, the hosts probed to cancel out the goal they conceded in Milan. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg tried to test goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a powerful shot in the second half while Harry Kane also headed the ball wide, with their side failing to mount any sustained pressure on the Italian defence.

Nevertheless, the Englishman came close to forcing the game into extra-time but saw his late header being spectacularly saved by Maignan. An immediate counter-attack by Milan almost yielded great result, with a shot from Divock Origi beating Fraser Foster but rattling the base of the right goalpost.

With the result, Milan cruised to the last eight stage of the competition for the first time since 2012. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur's season now rests on the ongoing battle for a top-four spot in the Premier League and fans on social media have now questioned the ambition of the club.
