For the second time this season, Manchester United will be without Casemiro for a handful of important fixtures. The Brazilian midfielder faces a four-matche suspension after picking a red card in Sunday afternoon's draw with Southampton.
Manchester United welcomed the Saints to Old Trafford with the hopes of bouncing back from last week's 7-0 humiliation at Anfield to Liverpool. The afternoon's match-up started on a promising note, with both sides coming close to finding the net. However, before half-time, the nature of the game was completely changed with the sending-off of Casemiro.
The 30-year-old, who completed a switch from Real Madrid to Old Trafford this last summer, received his marching orders with 34 minutes on the clock following a heavy challenge on Carlos Alcaraz. Having initially been cautioned with a yellow card, the Video Assistant Referee prompted referee Anthony Taylor to review the incident on the pitchside monitor, after which the decision was changed. In Casemiro's absence, Manchester United were unable to break the deadlock despite creating several chances. Meanwhile, the decision against the Brazilian was his second in his last three Premier League appearances. He is the first player to receive two red cards in a single Premier League season for Manchester United since Nemanja Vidic in 2013-14.
The former Real Madrid man is now suspended for four games as it is his second red of the season.
