The Nerazzurri host the Old Lady with the aim of returning to winning ways. However, form is on the side of Allegri's men. Here's a preview of this Sunday clash.

An international break is right around the corner but there will be one exciting Serie A showdown before the Italian top-flight players depart for their national teams. That match is Inter Milan vs Juventus as two of the country's biggest teams face off amidst an exciting battle to qualify for Europe.

While the Nerazzurri are second in the table, there is little to no hope of Inzaghi's men winning the Scudetto this season. The reason is simple: with only 12 games left in the season, Lautaro Martinez and Co. find themselves trailing league leaders Napoli by a whopping 18 points.

This was aided by the recent fixtures. While Spalletti's men beat Atalanta 2-0 last Saturday, Inter suffered a shock 2-1 loss away to Spezia the day before. In fact, this was their third slip-up in their last five matches, winning only twice while losing as many times.

As a result, the Milan giants must now worry about their top-four spot. This might sound strange for a club sitting second in the table but the 2020/21 Scudetto winners are only five points ahead of sixth-placed Atalanta.

This is a testament to Inter's inconsistencies this season, having dropped points in 10 out of their 26 fixtures. However, there have been positives, mainly in Europe.

Inzhagi's men recently secured their ticket to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, overcoming Porto 1-0 on aggregate in the round of 16. They will now face Benfica in the last eight but before that, Inter must overcome their domestic rival.

Likewise, Juventus head into this clash having secured progression in Europe. However, unlike the Nerazzurri, the Old Lady aren't in the UEFA Champions League but are in the UEFA Europa League instead.

The Italian heavyweights faced Freiburg in the round of 16 and emerged victorious courtesy of a 3-0 aggregate score line. In fact, Allegri's men were in action on Thursday, traveling to the Bundesliga side and beating them 2-0 on the road.

As a result, form is on Juventus' side as they go in search of their first Serie A win at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since 2019. Vlahovic and Co. have won all but one of their last six league outings, with the sole defeat coming against Roma, and will want to maintain this run on Sunday.

Additionally, due to their points deduction, the Bianconeri cannot afford to drop points. The visitors are currently seventh in the table with 38 points, with fourth-placed AC Milan sitting 10 points ahead. Allegri's side can qualify for the UEFA Champions League by winning the UEFA Europa League but a knockout competition isn't the most reliable route.

Furthermore, with Juventus set to face Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals after the international break, victory on Sunday would be the best possible preparation for their 1st-leg showdown on April 4. Don't miss this clash.

Team news

Inter: Lautaro Martinez missed a penalty in the defeat to Spezia but is guaranteed to start, with one of Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku set to partner. Unfortunately for the hosts, they could be without both Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni, who are nursing injuries.

Juventus: Arkadiusz Milik has just returned from injury, which means Dusan Vlahovic should lead the line. Paul Pogba and Alex Sandro, meanwhile, are both injured but Chiesa has returned to fitness and could make a cameo off the bench.

Key stats

  • Inter have won only once in their last four games.

  • The Nerazzurri lost 2-0 in their run-in with Juventus earlier this season but went unbeaten in the four encounters prior to that, winning three and drawing once.
