Milan dealt setback ahead of upcoming Napoli match

Struggling AC Milan dealt setback ahead of tough test against Napoli

March 27, 2023 By Michelle Bonsu
The Rossoneri will face the current Serie A leaders in what will be the first of three meetings in April, but have been dealt a big setback.

Next month will be a very interesting one for Milan and Napoli fans, as well as general calcio neutrals, with the Rossoneri and the Partenopei locking horns not once, not twice, but three times in the span of just over a fortnight.

First, Milan, who are the reigning Scudetto champions, will take on current league leaders Napoli in league action on April 2nd. This will be followed by an all-Italian quarter-finals in the Champions League, with the Partenopei hoping to make it to the semi-finals for the first time. The first leg will take place at the Stadio San Siro on April 12th, while the second leg will take place in Naples just under a week later on April 18th.

Milan's form as of late has been quite disappointing, as Stefano Pioli's men will come into their upcoming Serie A match having failed to win their last three games. That includes a rather demoralizing 3-1 loss to an Udinese side who has been on a kick lately, which leaves the Rossoneri a whopping 23 points behind Napoli with 11 games remaining in the season.

As such, it's safe to assume that with the Scudetto pretty much out of their hands, Milan will be more focused on progression in the Champions League. However, they have been dealt a big blow ahead of what will be a very busy April, with defender Pierre Kalulu ruled out for their upcoming game on the 2nd of next month. The 22-year-old has reportedly suffered a calf injury and will need to be

The French defender has been a solid option for Pioli's team, making nearly 40 appearances for the Rossoneri across all comps, and in fact, is the only player to have played in all games for Milan this season. His absences will be quite worrying, especially with Milan's congested fixture list, but for now, there will be some glimmers of hope that he could recover in time for Milan's Champions League game against Napoli later in April.
