Ansu Fati's father has given an explosive interview with Spanish news outlet Cope, slamming the club over their treatment of his beloved son while publicly advising the young attacker to leave Camp Nou.
This is just the latest development involving the 20-year-old and his uncertain future in Catalonia after seeing his playing time gravely diminish Xavi Hernandez.
A few seasons ago, the Blaugrana winger was regarded as one of the hottest young players in the game. While injuries derailed his development, Fati has remained fit for the most part this season yet still struggles for regular playing time.
The Spaniard has featured in 24 La Liga games this campaign but only nine of those were starts. Likewise, the Barcelona academy graduate only started two games in the UEFA Champions League and only came off the bench as a substitute in the Europa League encounters with Manchester United.
As a result, the player's father spoke harshly — and candidly — about his son's treatment while slamming head coach Xavi over the 20-year-old's lack of playing time. Additionally, while he admitted that Ansu's preference is to remain at Camp Nou, his father revealed that they will meet with agent Jorge Mendes soon to discuss his future.
"Ansu does not want to leave Barcelona but I want to see him succeed," Bori Fati told Cope.
"I won't go to the stadium anymore, I'm very angry with the club. In a month we will meet with Jorge Mendes, for sure.
"It bothers me that Ansu plays so little. We're talking about a player that is a Spain international and came from La Masia. He deserves much more than that.
"I don't know why Xavi does not play Ansu. He must have his reasons. Ansu is not disgusted with him as Xavi was always his idol. But me… I am very angry as a father.
"Mateu Alemany tells me that Ansu is part of the club's heritage. As a father, I have told Ansu that it is better for him to leave. But Ansu has told me that he does not agree with me on this. He wants to stay.
"If it was up to me, I would leave Barcelona tomorrow. I told Ansu that if the situation didn't change, we would have to leave, but he tells me that I'm wrong."
The player's future is already under tremendous doubt, with Premier League giants Manchester United, Newcastle, and Liverpool all being linked with the attacker over the past few months.
The player is contracted until 2027 but despite being the only natural left-sided winger, Ansu finds himself on the bench more often than not, even following Ousmane Dembele's injury.
