Luis Enrique speaks out regarding Spurs links

Former Spain boss ends Tottenham links in revealing interview

March 29, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The Spanish tactician dropped a hint on what could be his immediate future following his exit from La Roja after the past World Cup.

Spanish coach Luis Enrique has been named as a potential target to join a wide variety of clubs and national teams. The main problem, according to a recent interview, is that he is yet to be handed a firm option to sign.

Speaking to SER Deportivos Gijón, the coach for La Roja in the 2022 FIFA World Cup spoke about his links to Tottenham, to the Brazilian national team, and how things have changed in the Spanish side since he left them back in December.

Surprisingly, the coach admitted that, while he is keen on returning to the sidelines soon, he has not been offered a contract by Tottenham or any other club.

"I have not received any offers by a club up to this date. I know about the interest of a national team, which I will keep to myself. I wouldn't rule out coaching another national team," Luis Enrique stated.

The coach went on to reveal he is inclined to coaching in one specific league once this hiatus comes to an end.

"I have a special feeling for England. I'd love to go to England for work. The English league is interesting. I am biased because I would like to work there, but let me tell you, I am not going to any team. I'd like to join a team where I can win big things. There are lots of top-notch coaches who want to get a job there, so I have to keep my feet on the ground for now," the coach stated.

Then, going back to national team football, Luis Enrique revealed he does not see himself as Brazil's coach, even if he has also been linked to such a high-profile job.

"I don't think I fit the profile for the Brazilian team. I have not been in touch with them. I love having top players at my disposal, I always pick them, but I don't know if I would fit properly with such a skilled national team," ther former Blaugrana boss added.

Before the interview came to an end, Luis Enrique offered a brief insight on Spain's loss to Scotland, which sparked a lot of criticism and even made him a trending topic after La Roja's baffling display.

"I did not see any of their games, I was in South Africa. Things have to be different when you're not there, because each one has to follow their own path. When you're a coach, you dominate all information, much more than any fan or journalist. You have to decide and accept the results. Once those results are in, you will get treated one way or the other," the coach concluded.
