It seems that the end of an era could come at Manchester United, as the club has failed to sign a contract extension for Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard, who joined the team in 2011, could leave the Red Devils this summer if he fails to reach an agreement with the English club. Initial reports on this issue are not promising, as the footballer was not satisfied with the terms offered by the Premier League side.

According to The Athletic, De Gea turned down an offer that would see him earning over €375,000 weekly because he still wants to be among the best-paid players in the team. The offer came with a paycut of €50,000 from his current wages, bringing negotiations to a standstill point.

Negotiations between De Gea and the team could be picked up in coming weeks, but the Spanish goalie must decide wisely about the course his career will take. At the moment, Manchester United are ready to go all in for a striker, and having to get distracted with De Gea's extension is something no one within the team had in mind. 

Coach Erik Ten Hag has never questioned De Gea's place in the team, but if his employers fail to keep him around, this could create an unnecessary problem for the Red Devils in their quest back to the top spots in the league.
