The American international is hoping to put a rough 2022 behind him, but has been ruled out for Dortmund's upcoming game against Bayern.

Considering the drama created by his parents during last year's World Cup, Giovanni "Gio" Reyna naturally is hoping to put that firmly behind him and let his football do the talking.

Unfortunately for the young player, he will not be taking part in Dortmund's upcoming crunch clash against Bayern Munich this weekend. Although Reyna was involved in both of the USMNT's CONCACAF Nations League games that resulted in victories over Grenada and El Salvador, it appears that he's come down with some kind of nasty bug that affected other USMNT teammates, including Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic.

As such, Reyna, who has been used mostly as a sub by coach Edin Terzic, will not be featuring in the highly anticipated Klassiker match this Saturday. At the moment, Dortmund are one point clear of Bayern Munich in a very hotly-contested title race, but have a long and frustrating record when it comes to facing Bayern in these kind of games. It's set to be a very hectic period for Terzic's team, who will be in DFB-Pokal action but also will next face a high-flying Union Berlin over the next few weeks.
