Two of Portugal's biggest teams will lock horns as the latest O Clássico gets underway starring Benfica and Porto on Friday, April 7th.

Friday is set to be a big day for Portuguese football fans, as another installment of the famed O Clássico match starring Benfica and Porto will be taking place. While one team do hold a massive advantage over the chasing pack, a win for the other side could potentially force the title race to take an interesting twist even at this late stage in the 2022/23 Primeira Liga season.

Hosts Benfica, who are 10 points clear of upcoming visitors Porto, come into this match having won their last five games across all competitions. That includes crushing Belgian outfit Club Brugge 5-1 in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie to set up a quarter-finals clash against Inter. Roger Schmidt's side will take on the Nerazzurri next week, with the first leg taking place on home turf. Given the significance of that upcoming tough game, it will be very interesting to see how Schmidt manages his team for Friday's derby tie.

The Eagles, who have had to see rivals Porto and Sporting CP win the Primeira Liga title in recent seasons, are certainly on their way to finally reclaiming their spot at the top team in the league. Their domestic form has been quite solid, with just one loss all season, and ten wins on the trot will definitely have them fancying their chances at extending their lead - especially considering their strong home form. So far, Benfica have yet to lose a game on home turf, with 18 wins and two draws from their last 20 games across all competitions.

That being said, Benfica's performance against Porto is an entirely different story, and that will give the Dragons hope. At the moment, Porto sit in second spot, and are unbeaten in their last 11 away Primeira Liga ties. Unlike Benfica, Sérgio Conceição's team are not in European competition, having been dumped out of the Champions League by Inter last month. Still, Conceição will have some selection concerns given that several key players could possibly miss this game due to injury.

Porto will also take respite in the fact that they have lost just one of their last 10 meetings with Benfica across all competitions, but as noted before, Benfica's home form is certainly not something to be discounted. Will either of these teams find a breakthrough in what could be a tense Friday evening meeting between two familiar foes? Or will their efforts end up cancelling each other out, forcing Benfica and Porto to have to share the spoils?

Team news: Benfica vs Porto

Benfica: Both Goncalo Guedes and Julian Draxler are definitely out, while Mihailo Ristic is a major doubt for Friday's game.

Porto: Diogo Costa, Evanilson and Zaidu Sanusi are all doubts for this match.
