The Cityzens recently beat league leaders Arsenal 4-1 and will look to maintain their spectacular form when they visit Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Manchester City return to action following their priceless 4-1 thrashing of Premier League leaders Arsenal as the reigning champions look to solidify their grip on the title. However, that result will mean nothing if Pep's men slip up this weekend as the English giants travel to Fulham in what should be an interesting Sunday encounter.

It wasn't long ago when Fulham were surprise contenders for European football. In Matchweek 20, the newly-promoted side were as high as sixth in the table and were hopeful of nailing a spot in the UEFA Europa League.

However, fast forward to today and the Cottagers are in 10th. With only nine wins out of their last 20 games, it's not hard to see why their hopes of competing in a continental competition perished.

Marco Silva's men have lost 13 games in the Premier League all season. However, over half of those came in 2023, with Fulham suffering seven defeats in this calendar year.

Additionally, the eight-game ban handed to influential striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh in the 3-0 loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals did not help.

Nonetheless, the London club have pulled off something admirable. While the team lost their most recent outing, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa, Fulham have mathematically secured another season in the Premier League, which is brilliant after getting relegated immediately after their last two promotions.

Furthermore, the Cottagers are in 10th and can label this campaign successful if they can finish in the top half of the table. Unfortunately, Silva's men face tough fixtures between now and the end of the campaign, with Man City, Man United, and Liverpool in the cards.

The Cityzens, meanwhile, have their eyes on the treble and will fancy their odds of achieving this historic feat after beating current Premier League leaders Arsenal earlier this week.

That highly-anticipated showdown took place at the Etihad Stadium but was sadly, for all the neutrals, a one-sided affair as Pep Guardiola's men thrashed the Gunners 4-1 en route to a confidence-boosting victory.

This means that while Arteta's side remain top of the league, City trail Saka and Co. by only two points despite having played two fewer games. If the reigning champions of England win those two fixtures, then they would turn this two-point deficit into a four-point lead over Arsenal.

Form is also on the Cityzens side, with Haaland and Co. peaking just at the right time. The English giants are on a 17-game unbeaten run that stretches back to their 1-0 loss away to Tottenham back in early February. Additionally, the visitors are on a seven-game winning streak in the league.

However, the road will get trickier for the Manchester giants as they will play five times over the next two weeks, traveling to Craven Cottage, Goodison Park, and Santiago Bernabeu in the UEFA Champions League semifinals while also facing West Ham and relegation-battling Leeds.

Furthermore, Guardiola's men also have an FA Cup final against neighbors Manchester United on the horizon as well as trips to Brighton and Brentford, and a home clash with Chelsea — albeit a struggling Chelsea.

Team news

Fulham: With Mitrovic still serving his ban, Daniel James will spearhead the hosts' attack and should be joined by Manor Solomon. However, Harry Wilson and Willian could both miss this fixture while Layvin Kurzawa is sidelined due to a knee injury.

Manchester City: Nathan Ake is the Cityzens' only absentee, with the Dutch defender suffering a hamstring issue in the 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich. Manuel Akanji should deputize for Ake, meaning another start for Kyle Walker. Meanwhile, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez will be pushing for starts but the Argentine will struggle to displace the unstoppable Erling Haaland.

Key stats

  • Man City are unbeaten in their last 15 Premier League encounters with Fulham.
