The German clubs have identified a specific player that would suit their needs, but signing this footballer will not come cheap for any of them.

The never-ending rift between Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund will continue far away from the pitch, as both German giants will reportedly enter a tug of war to sign a prominent Eredivisie player.

A report by De Telegraaf states that the Bundesliga clubs will enter a bidding war to sign one of Ajax's top players this season, who was also linked to Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and is now being sought out by teams from La Liga. The man in question is none other than Edson Alvarez, a member of Mexico's national team with a truckload of international experience despite his age.

The 25-year-old Mexican joined Ajax in 2019 and has established himself as a reliable player for the Dutch club, where he won two Eredivisie titles and one Dutch cup. This season, Álvarez has ranked among the top players for the red and white side, playing over 40 games across all comps, including eight games in European competitions.

Álvarez came close to joining Chelsea last summer, but Ajax's hierarchy decided to snub a $40M offer from the Blues due to their lack of options to replace him. Now, with the Eredivisie season coming to an end, Álvarez is expected to leave Ajax as one of their top transfers, with Dortmund and Bayern ready to lure him to the Bundesliga.

The footballer can play as a midfielder or at center back if needed, and would become a suitable reinforcement for Borussia Dortmund if they end up selling Mahmoud Dahoud and Jude Bellingham. Meanwhile, Bayern could use Álvarez as a reliable backup for Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka.

Whatever the future holds in store for the Mexican international, it seems that Ajax will be ready to listen to all offers above $40M. Will it be enough to lure one of their most talented players away? Let's see what the transfer window holds in store.
