The most recent exchange between these iconic bosses came thanks to José Mourinho, who decided to praise Roma's secon European final in a row while comparing it to Manchester City's return to a UEFA Champions League final. The comparison had to involve money, and Mourinho did not hold back when judging his team's merit over Guardiola's accomplishment.
According to Mourinho, Manchester City's accomplishment should not be worthy of praise unlike Roma's, who had to struggle with almost no signings and with low-cost moves to reach the title clash in the Europa League.
"The only teams that do not suffer are those who bench players worth $40M or $70M. Last Wednesday, we saw City subbing in players such as Julián Álvarez, Foden and Mahrez. We lose four or five players and we suffer to get wins. Here in Roma, those who get to play are those who are needed," Mourinho said.
Then, the Special One went on to add how his team's accomplishment deserves more praise due to the small budget he used to take the giallorossi to another European final.
"We barely invested seven millions in the past transfer window and we made it to the final. What we have done is simply extraordinary," Mourinho concluded.
Roma will face Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League final on May 31. This will be the second title match in that competition for the giallorossi, where they will try to win their first crown after losing to Inter in 1991.
