The Blaugrana already had clinched the Liga F title once again, but their hopes at finishing another season sans a defeat were dashed this weekend.

On Sunday, Barcelona traveled to the Estadio Fernando Torres to take on Madrid CFF. Thanks to another brilliant season, the Blaugrana had already clinched the Liga F title with several games to spare as they look forward to facing Wolfsburg in the UEFA Women's Champions League final next month.

However, prior to this match, Barcelona, who had sailed through the season by winning all of their Liga F games, had dropped points for the first time in seemingly ages when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sevilla. Indeed, it was Barcelona's first league draw in nearly three and a half years, and thus ended a 62-game winning streak leading back to 2021.

While that didn't affect their title triumph, it still was enough for many to notice that perhaps fatigue was starting to set in for Jonatan Giraldez's side. Still, there was the expectation that Barcelona would recover from this and pick up all three points against a Madrid CFF side that they had crushed 7-0 earlier this term.

Madrid, who were serving as Sunday's hosts, had other ideas. A brace from Zambian international Racheal Kundananji was enough to give them a 2-0 lead. Although Alexia Putellas, who has been out injured for quite some time, scored her first goal since May 2022 to try to pull one back, it wasn't enough to prevent Barcelona from slumping to a surprise 2-1 defeat.

The loss for the Blaugrana also snapped a 64-game unbeaten streak in Liga F, and is their first since June 2021. It is indeed a disappointing end to the 2022/23 Liga F season for Barcelona, who were playing in their final league match this Sunday, but they will not be keen on dwelling on this bad result for too long.

Next up for Giraldez's team will be the aforementioned Champions League final clash against Wolfsburg, which takes place on June 3rd.
