Newcastle end UCL drought thanks to draw vs Foxes

CONFIRMED: Newcastle book UCL spot for the first time in 20 years

May 22, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
With today's game, the Magpies have only left one spot in the continental competition up for grabs, with Manchester United on the brink of securing it this week.

Newcastle's goal to return to the top club competition in Europe was a long-term plan, but their good performance this year has seen that goal coming in their very first season under their new administration.

The Magpies managed to claim the third spot in the Premier League all to themselves with a goalless draw against Leicester, but the result of that match was irrelevant for them, as they only needed one point to secure European football of the top kind.

The black and white side will return to their first UEFA Champions League edition after many ups and downs, which saw them being unable to avoid relegation in 2009 and 2016. Now, the Magpies return to the top club tournament in Europe, and their official social media accounts wasted no time to celebrate such a milestone.
