Mou makes weird call ahead of UEL final

Jose Mourinho takes extreme measures ahead of Europa League final

May 29, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The Special One is preparing for his second European final with the Giallorossi, and he wants no loose ends prior to the title match.

They say that great coaches have a hint of genius in them, but maybe José Mourinho has taken it a bit far before the UEFA Europa League final between Roma and Sevilla.

The giallorossi and the Spanish side will lock horns on Wednesday in what will be the first European title of the season, followed by the Europa Conference League final on June 7 and by the UEFA Champions League title match on June 10. Mourinho will lead the Romans to a second European final in two years, and he wants things to go exactly how they did last season, which means that the club will repeat every single thing they did in preparation for that match.

According to a report by the Corriere dello Sport, the Special One will take all possible measures to assure Roma go all the way in the Europa League, which has seen him banning all non-essential staff from the team's training sessions ahead of the final. The only members from the team's staff that are allowed to be close to the team, according to the Italian media outlet, are the doctors and technical staff.

Surprisingly, this was the same measure taken by Mou last year, when Roma defeated Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa Conference League final, and giallorossi execs allowed him to repeat that gesture ahead of the clash set to take place in Budapest.

If this plan works for Mourinho, the 60-year-old could be tempted to leave Roma despite being under contract with the giallorossi until the end of next season. Apparently, the Portuguese coach has been seduced by the idea of coaching PSG, but he has chosen not to reveal his upcoming plans until the end of this season, something that will take place on Sunday as the Serie A wraps up the 2022-23 campaing.

Roma execs still believe that Mourinho can be seduced to stay put if they can come up with proper signigns, but then again, it will all be determined when the European title match and the Italian top-flight conclude. Should Mourinho keep working with Roma or part ways with the Italian side? We will find out soon enough.

Meanwhile, have a look at our UEFA Europa League final listings to see how Mourinho's men take on Sevilla this Wednesday.
