Bayern ready to part ways with six footballers

Yard sale? Bayern reportedly ready to offload up to six first-team players

May 30, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The revolution at Allianz Arena will continue this summer, as the Bavarians want to re-build the team that struggled to win one more Bundesliga title.

Interesting times are coming for Bayern München fans, who could see quite a different squad defending their most recent Bundesliga title when the action in the German top-flight returns.

Reports close to the team have hinted that a massive exodus of players could take place this summer, following the team's problems to secure another Bundesliga title and considering the disappointing performances that led to the team's early exits in the DFB-Pokal and in the UEFA Champions League.

According to German media outlets, as many as six first-team players could leave the club in search of new blood, even if some of those names were signed recently by the most-winning team in the Bundesliga.

The first names to pop up in this article are Thomas Müller and Sadio Mané. The German striker has turned down rumors about an exit, but reports revealed that he is unhappy with his current role under coach Tuchel. Given his age, Müller would be keen on leaving now before it is too late, which will prompt the club to listen to any offers for his services. As for Mané, his highly-public row with Leroy Sané in the first leg of the Champions League match against Manchester City and his lack of impact with the club could be key to seal his exit. The Senegalese ace seems set to go back to the Premier League, according to recent articles.

Things in defense may also change for Bayern, as Lucas Hernández, Benjamin Pavard, and Alphonso Davies have been earmarked for an exit this summer. Hernández, who has one year left in his contract, could leave the club to join PSG, who wanted to sign him one year ago and who have kept in touch with the footballer's agents. The same goes for Benjamin Pavard, who is seeking for a way out of the Bavarian side to a club that can guarantee him minutes and a regular spot in the lineup. Pavard's deal ends in 2024, and he has already stated he is not interested in signing a contract extension.

As for Canadian ace Alphonso Davies, the North American left back has voiced his concern over the turmoil going on within Bayern, which could push him away from the German club. Davies is under contract until 2025, but teams such as Real Madrid have already eyed Davies as a long-term replacement for Ferland Mendy, who is set to leave the club this summer.

Added to these names, the German side must part ways with at least one of their goalkeepers, where Yann Sommer and Manuel Neuer are seen as the reliable options to guard their net. With that in mind, Sven Ulreich and Johannes Schenk might be leaving the club, although Neuer's future has been subject to discussion since his injury after the FIFA World Cup.
