The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract but is yet to agree a new deal with the Gunners, with PSG reportedly monitoring the situation.

Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Aaron Ramsdale have all signed new contracts at Arsenal following their impressive Premier League title push. However, one star player is yet to commit his future to the club and that is William Saliba.

The French center-back returned to the Gunners last summer after several loan spells away from the Emirates Stadium. His future was shrouded in doubt but took to life in England like a duck to water and immediately cemented his place in Mikel Arteta's starting eleven.

Furthermore, he is now regarded as one of the best center-backs, not only in the Premier League, but also in world football. However, the 22-year-old is entering the final year of his deal, thus leaving the club in a tricky situation.

Contract negotiations are ongoing and while the North London giants are confident of getting this done, a worrying update was revealed by the Sun. According to the British tabloid, the club and the player are nowhere near reaching an agreement on a salary, leading PSG to enter the conversation.

The report states that Saliba currently pockets £40,000 ($50,000) per week, making him one of the lowest-paid first team players. As a result, the Frenchman wants a pay raise and his club are willing to triple his wages to £120,000 per week (just under $150,000 weekly). However, the former Marseille center-back has rejected this offer.

Arsenal are said to be shocked by the player's demands and are "currently nowhere near reaching an agreement". To make things worse, the Premier League runners-up fear losing their defender to PSG as the Ligue 1 champions want the center-back and have the funds to pay Saliba whatever he desires.

Arteta is keen on keeping the 22-year-old at the Emirates Stadium but the Gunners could be forced to sell if an agreement isn't reached in time or they will run the risk of losing him for free in 2024. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were made two of the club's top-five earners and that could also be a huge factor behind Saliba's demands.

While it remains unclear what the future holds for Arsenal and their contract negotiations with William, one thing is certain: Edu has his work cut out for him this summer. Not only will he be working overtime to extend Saliba's deal, but the Brazilian is preparing for a busy summer transfer window, with Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo, Mason Mount, and Ilkay Gundogan being on their wish list.
