Milan are on the hunt for a new playmaker, and some reports from Italy have them linked with a move for the Colombian star.

With Hakan Calhanoglu departing on a Bosman to Inter, AC Milan are now scrambling to find a replacement for their key playmaker before the 2021/22 Serie A season kicks off.

The Rossoneri are back in the Champions League for the first time since the 2013/2014 season and are keen on building a squad that can challenge on multiple fronts.

And that means to make sure they have strong options in every department. In addition to Calhanoglu's departure, Milan will now need to find a no. 1 choice goal keeper as Gianluigi Donnarumma has now signed a five year deal with PSG.

But back to the playmaker position. Reports have Milan looking at different targets, both in Italy, and abroad. Atalanta duo Josip Ilicic and Ruslan Malinovskyi are some of the names that have been linked with the Diavolo, and now, another player has been added to the list, as per Sportitalia.

That player is none other than Everton's James Rodriguez. The Colombian international, who is well known from his time at Real Madrid could reportedly be persuaded to leave Goodison Park and make a move to Serie A. That's because his coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has left the Toffees to return to Real Madrid, and as per the Italian report, this, coupled with the prospect of playing in the Champions League, could inspire Rodriguez to make the switch.

At the same time, Rodriguez did join Everton to work with Ancelotti, so it is possible he could hope to move back to Spain, with Atletico Madrid another team that's apparently keen. Time will tell if Rossoneri fans will see him on the books for Milan or if the Colombian star remains in England or opts to move elsewhere.
