The Serie A club are exploring the possibility of bringing the player to fill in for their poster boy who is on the verge of completing a switch to Chelsea.

Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly targeting the recruitment of Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer. The 25-year-old Frenchman has been identified as a prospective signing for the Nerazzurri who are keen on finding a replacement for the outgoing Romelu Lukaku.

As widely publicised by multiple European media outlets on Saturday, the Belgian striker is on the verge of completing a $152M switch from Inter to Chelsea, ending a two-year stint at the Guisseppe Meaza. Since arriving in Serie A from Manchester United, the former Blues academy graduate has been extremely reliable for the current Scudetto holders, scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lukaku's move to Stamford Bridge will soon be made official and he is expected to sign a long-term deal that will see him earn $14M in wages annually. He is expected to fly to London for his medical in the coming days after completing the mandatory quarantine for travellers to the UK.

With Lukaku's transfer now looking inevitable, Inter are moving swiftly to bring in successor as they aim to defend their Serie A title. As per the Mirror, Anthony Martial is the player that Simeone Inzaghi's side aims to recruit to lead their attacking line and are willing to take him onboard as a loanee for the first season. An obligation to buy clause is expected to be inserted should United agree to the Italian club's proposal.

Owning to Martial's inconsistency since joining the Red Devils in 2015, the Premier League outfit is said to be keen on cutting its losses and recoup most of the $69.3M they paid Monaco to sign him. In the 258 appearances that he has made for the club, he has managed just 78 goals.
