The Gunners, who have had an awful start to their 2021/22 Premier League campaign, will hope that the versatile Japanese international could offer them some added options in midfield and defense.

It's safe to say that many Arsenal fans would definitely love to push the reset button on the current season. The Gunners have been in horrible form since the 2021/22 campaign started last month, shockingly losing all three of their opening games against newly promoted Brentford as well as English giants Chelsea and Manchester City without scoring a single goal.

Many naturally have called for Mikkel Arteta's immediate sacking, but for now, the Spaniard remains in charge. However, despite their woes, Arsenal have still been active in the transfer market, and now have added a new face to their roster in a bid to try to revamp their flagging fortunes.

That new player is none other than Takehiro Tomiyasu. The name may not be familiar immediately to Gunners fans, but many Serie A followers will be aware of the Japanese international, especially those who support Bologna, who finished in 12th in the league last season.

The 22-year-old was initially in talks with Arsenal's London rivals Tottenham, but the deal fell through, giving them the chance to pounce at securing his signature.

As per reports from Italy, Tomiyasu has now signed a four year contract that will cost Arsenal €20 million plus an additional €3 million in performance-related bonuses. He's set to link up with his new teammates in London once he returns from Japan, where he's presently on international duty.

Tomiyasu usually played as a central defender for the Rossoblu, but occasionally also featured as a right back and defensive midfielder for Bologna, where he made over 60 appearances during his time at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.
