After the chaos revolving their clash with Argentina, Tite's men shift focus back to their World Cup qualifying campaign, taking on Peru on Thursday.

Preview

Brazil's World Cup qualifying campaign was unfortunately interrupted by the chaotic suspension of their highly-anticipated clash with Argentina, but it's back to business for the record champions, with the Selecao returning to action on Thursday. The South American giants are gearing up for their clash with Brazil, an 8:30 p.m. ET affair scheduled to take place at the Arena de Pernambuco, as Tite's men look to maintain their perfect start to the campaign.

Neymar and Co. head into this tie on the back of the weekend fiasco from their fixture with bitter rivals Argentina. The two continental powerhouses were penciled down to face off on Sunday, with both national teams taking to the field and kicking off their encounter. However, after only a few minutes of play, federal police and medical authorities forced their way onto the pitch and halted the game, sparking worldwide controversy.

Four Premier League-based Argentine players were accused of falsely filling entry documents in order to skip the mandatory two-week quarantine period for those who were in the United Kingdom and were thus wanted for deportation. Long discussions ensued and once it became clear that the four aforementioned players – Emi Martinez, Lo Celso, Romero, and Buendia – were not going to be allowed to carry on, La Albiceleste, led by Lionel Messi, left the pitch for the dressing room, with the game shortly afterwards being suspended.

It remains unclear what will happen. CONMEBOL referred this case to FIFA as it falls under the jurisdiction of world football's governing body. An investigation is currently underway, with anything from a simple rescheduling to the win being awarded to one nation being a likely verdict.

Brazil, however, cannot spare time on that incident as the focus quickly shifts to Thursday's game. This will be their final fixture of the current international break, meaning Tite's side will be keen on wrapping things up with a bang. Their record so far in the road to Qatar 2022 has been impeccable. Seven games, 21 points, 17 goals scored, and only two goals conceded – the Selecao have been nothing short of unstoppable.

Can Peru stop the five-time World Cup champions? Beating Brazil is more of a necessity than a probability as La Blanquirroja sit seventh in the table, two points adrift of the fifth and final ticket to Qatar 2022. Ricardo Gareca's side haven't fared well against Neymar and Co. recently but they enter this fixture on the back of a confidence-boosting triumph over Venezuela. Don't miss this fixture.

Team news

Brazil: TIte is without his Premier League contingent, meaning there will be no Alisson, Ederson, Fabinho, Thiago Silva, Firmino, Jesus, Richarlison, and Fred. This means Marquinhos and Eder Militao will form the center-back partnership while Gerson and Bruno Guimaraes will compete for a midfield berth. Neymar will, once again, spearhead the attack.

Peru: Paolo Guerrero and Raul Ruidiaz are back in the mix and will offer much-needed experience. Gianluca Lapadula, who was recently injured, has made a full recovery and will be available for selection.

Key stats

  • This will be the 51st encounter between these two nations.

  • As expected, the Selecao boast the superior record, having won 36 times in those 50 clashes.

  • Peru have managed only nine victories over Brazil.

  • The five-time World Cup winners haven't lost a competitive game against Peru since their 1-0 Copa America defeat to them in 2916.
