It's pretty safe to say that Dusan Vlahovic is doing his utmost best to prove he's no one-hit wonder. The 21-year-old Serbian international, who will be featuring with his country at next year's World Cup, has been in top form as Fiorentina seek to secure European football for themselves after a difficult past few seasons.
On Tuesday, Vlahovic was on target once again as the Gigliati successfully bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Empoli last time out. His goal, which was the second of the match and helped Fiorentina pull ahead to eventually beat Sampdoria 3-1, makes it 12 so far for the season. That puts Vlahovic two ahead of Ciro Immobile in the race for the Capocannoniere and means he's scored exactly 50 per cent of Fiorentina's 24 goals so far this campaign.
That's not all: Tuesday's goal is Vlahovic's 29th since 2021 started. It puts him in some pretty elite company, as to date, there are only four foreign players to have scored 29 or more goals in Serie A in about seven decades.
Including Vlahovic, the other three are none other than Cristiano Ronaldo (33 in 2020), Gonzalo Higuain (30 in 2016), and Hernan Crespo (30 in 2001).
Given that there's at least four weeks to go between now and the end of the year, with Fiorentina in action four more times in Serie A, there's plenty of opportunities for Vlahovic to add more to his rapidly growing tally - and possibly beat the record of 33 established by Ronaldo last year.
