Xavi's plans to give some of the team's younger talents a chance to shine have taken a hit due to a clause in one of his starlet's contracts,

Things for Xavi Hernández have not started the way fans and the coach himself wanted, and one more problem has emerged for the Spanish boss in his quest to turn things around at Camp Nou.

One of the main goals Hernández has in his first months with Los Blaugranas will be to give homegrown players a chance to play with the first team, and he has fulfilled that promise by giving players such as Gavi, Nico, or Ez Abde. One more footballer who was expected to be handed a major role by Xavi was Austrian winger Yusuf Demir, but a clause included in his deal will force Los Culés to "freeze" the footballer's progression until the end of the transfer window.

According to a report by As, Demir's transfer from Rapid Wien included a clause that forced Barceloina to pay the Austrian side €10M (around $11M) if Demir was involved in ten games during his first year with the first team. As of December 8, Demir had played nine games in all comps for Los Culés, which means that playing one more game would force the Catalan side to pay the Austrian team.

Now, Xavi will have to stop using the footballer if he wants to help Barcelona's struggling finances. Why? Because the team is expected to sign a couple of players during the next transfer window, and having to spend that amount to honor that clause would take a hit to the team's long-term plans. With that in mind, it seems that Los Culés will be destined to play all their games without Demir until February, regardless of how much promise the footballer has shown in his nine appearances.
