The Blaugrana have decided to splash the cash on the young Spanish international in a bid to beef up their attack in 2022.

Things haven't gone so great for Barcelona this season, to say the least. This past summer, the Blaugrana were rocked by the seemingly abrupt departure of their talisman, Lionel Messi, on a free to PSG. Then, they underwent a managerial change even before the halfway point this season, with Ronald Koeman sacked and legendary midfielder Xavi brought in. Despite this, Barcelona have failed to find their footing, and will be featuring in the Europa League after shockingly being eliminated at the group stage.

The fallen Catalan giants have also had to see bitter rivals Real Madrid pretty much run away with the league title. As things stand, Los Blancos presently enjoy a very comfortable 22 point lead over Barcelona, and indeed, with an eight point lead over second-placed Sevilla, it would take a monumental collapse from Carlo Ancelotti's side to relinquish top spot.

To that end, Barcelona have already started making big plans for 2022. And one area they're looking to improve is in attack. Despite their financial woes, the Blaugrana have now opened the checkbook to splash over $60 million on a new acquisition.

Specifically, they've spent $62 million (€55 million/£47 million) to bring in Manchester City's Ferran Torres. Despite not playing since September following a foot injury, Torres, whose brace for Spain ended Italy's 30-plus match unbeaten streak and dumped the Azzurri out of the Nations League, will be returning to his homeland in January.

Given that he doesn't come cheap, Barcelona are expected to offload quite a bit of fringe players during this winter's transfer window. Torres is expected to help fill the void left behind by Sergio Aguero, who was unable to make his mark at the Camp Nou due to a recently discovered heart condition.

It's a early return to Spain for Torres, as the 21 year old only left Valencia back in August 2020, but Barcelona fans will hope he can hit the ground running as the Blaugrana seek to reverse their bad fortunes in 2022.
