Despite spending big on the young Spanish international, the Blaugrana won't be able to register him officially until they free up some funds.

Back in 2021, we reported that Barcelona had decided to spend big - to the tune of $62 million (£46 million/€55 million) for Manchester City's Ferran Torres. Despite being out much of this season due to a foot injury, the 21-year-old nonetheless has clearly shown his potential for the Blaugrana to take a serious punt on him and hope that he can help revive their struggling fortunes.

It's well known that Barcelona have some major financial issues, which were exemplified in them letting star man Lionel Messi go last summer. And it appears that these financial woes haven't abated, as new reports indicate that it may be a while before Torres makes his official debut for his new club.

While, as noted before, Torres has been out since September due to a foot injury, the delays regarding his debut aren't solely due to a fitness issue. Rather, Barcelona will have to sell quite a bit of fringe players in order to free up funds. In short, they'll have to find a way to offload some of their deadweight in this January's transfer window.

In addition, reports indicate that Barcelona still need to get Ousmane Dembele's contract sorted. Although the French winger hasn't made the impact many had expected, especially given his price tag, the club still haven't given up on him and indeed are hoping to have him form a potentially formidable attack with new signing Torres.

So, will fans get to see their player in action sometime soon? We'll have just to wait and see, but hopefully for Barcelona and their supporters, it will be sooner rather than later.
