A spot in the 2021 AFCON semi-finals is at stake as Burkina Faso and Tunisia lock horns in the second quarter-finals of this winter's tournament.

Preview: Burkina Faso vs Tunisia

It's been hardly smooth sailing for Burkina Faso so far at the 2021 AFCON tournament. The Stallions kicked off proceedings with a 2-1 loss to hosts Cameroon, before narrowly beating Cape Verde 1-0 on matchday two. Just as supporters thought their team had turned a corner, Burkina Faso suffered yet another setback as they were held to a one-all draw with Ethiopia.

However, despite picking up just four points, it was enough to help Kamou Malo's men secure second place in their quartet, narrowly beating out Cape Verde thanks to their better head to head record. The round of 16 wasn't any easier, as the Stallions ended up ultimately having to see off Gabon on spot kicks after a grueling 120 minutes of football. Still, they will come into their upcoming clash with Tunisia in solid form, and have lost just one of their last ten matches across all comps.

Tunisia, for their part, come into this tie having dumped Nigeria out of the competition in arguably one of the major upsets at the 2021 AFCON tournament. It's been a remarkable turnaround, especially considering that the Eagles of Carthage performed disappointingly in the group stages, with just one win from their three games, but managed to qualify for the round of 16 as one of the best-placed third ranked teams.

They will now look to continue their journey, and hope that this time around, their clash with Burkina Faso will bring forth positive rewards. Of course, that will be much easier said than done, as the Stallions will be equally determined to do their utmost best to secure a spot in the last four.
