Cameroon will be out to avoid another Cup of Nations shock when they take on Gambia in the first quarter-final game of the ongoing campaign.

The story so far

Hosts Cameroon will be fearful of an embarrassing exit in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, as they face dark horses Gambia in the first of the weekend's quarterfinal matchups. The Indomitable Lions have been one of the standout performers at the tournament so far and will look to add to their quest of winning the title for a sixth time. They approach the game unbeaten in the competition so far, winning Group A after recording two wins and a draw against Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde respectively.

Cameroon's Round of 16 adventure also proved to be successful as they stood their ground to secure a hard-earned 2-1 win over a history-making Comoros side. At the moment, no team has scored more goals than Toni Conceicao's men rank as they have managed nine goals in just four outings, conceeding in all the matches as well.

Coming up against a Gambian side that has a similar record in the run in to the quarter-final, it is somewhat justified should Cameroon be weary of what awaits them inside Olembe Stadium on Saturday. Despite being the lowest-ranked side in the Africa Cup of Nations, the Scorpions have defied the bookies' predicitons to set themselves up for their best-ever finish at any edition of the continental tournament.

Tom Sainfeit's men currently find themselves in contention for a spot in the semi-finals, claiming three wins and managing three clean sheets from their four games. They began with a 1-0 win over Mauritania before drawing 1-1 with Mali and stunning Tunisia via a 1-0 scoreline. They added to their remarkable run by defating Guinea 1-0 in the Round of 16 in Kouekong to set up the upcoming clash with Cameroon. With a number of upsets having already been seen at the tournament, Gambia will well fancy their chances to delivering the hosts another one of such blows.
