The underdogs defied the odds to secure another historic milestone at the expense of their North African counterparts.

Burkina Faso took a giant step to having another extraordinary campaign by defeating Tunisia in a quarter-final clash to progress to the next round of the 2021 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. The 10-man Stallions defeated the Carthage Eagles by a goal to nil with goalscorer Dango Ouattara also being the man to be sent-off while his side hanged on for a win.

The 19-year-old Lorient striker gave Kamou Malo's men the lead inside the third minute of additional time in the first half, scoring after holding off two defenders and striking the ball into the net from close range after a swift counter. Blati Toure through ball set him on course to do the damage and he maintained his composure and balance to finish wonderfully.

Ouattara's goal would ultimately decide the clash but the young attacker was unable to see out the full 90 minutes after getting sent off in the 82nd minute. The player was originally shown a yellow card for an elbow on Ali Maaloul as they challenged in the air for a ball. However, the card was changed to a red after a review by VAR, making the Burkina striker the first player in close to a decade to score and be sent off in the same AFCON game.

For Burkina Faso, it is the third time in the last five editions of the AFCON that they have reached the semi-finals. Also, they have now won all three quarter-final games against Tunisia at the AFCON. With their place among the last four booked, they now await the winner if Sunday's quarter-final clash between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea in Yaounde.
