The Pharaohs fought back from a goal down to secure a big while Senegal did enough to withstand the threat of Equatorial Guinea.

Egypt and Senegal stamped their supremacy to secure their place in the semi-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Morocco and Equatorial Guinea respectively in the remaining quarter-final fixtures on Sunday quarterfinal. The Pharaohs put in another impressive display to progress to the next round by fighting back from a goal down to register the 2-1 win while the Teranga Lions withstood the threat of the National Thunder to run away with a 3-1 victory.

In the first of the days matches, Morocco took the lead in the seventh minute when Sofiane Boufal converted from the spot after a VAR check confirmed that Ayman Ashraf had fouled Achraf Hakimi in the area. While Egypt struggled to impose themselves in the first half, their breakthrough came in the second, with Mohamed Salah making use of a defensive scramble in the penalty area of the Atlas Lions and firing home the equalizer.

The game was forced into extra-time after neither of the sides managed a winner. 10 minutes into the first half of the period, Carlos Quieroz's side assumed pole position after Salah assisted Aston Villa's Trezeguets to score the winning goal. With the result, the Pharaohs secured a semi-final date with hosts Cameroon at the Olembe Stadium on February 3. 

Meanwhile, in the later clash between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea, the latter saw their fairytale at this year's tournament coming to an end. The National Thunder could not handle the efficiency of their West African counterparts, with goals by Famara Diedhiou, Chiekhou Kouyate and Ismaila Sarr sealing the deal for the Teranga Lions.

In-between, Jannick Buyla found the back of the net to manage a consolation goal for Juan Micha's side, crowing what has been a memorable spell for them. Winners Senegal will now go head to head with Burkina Faso inside Stade Omnisport de Douala on February 2 in the other semifinal match-up.
