Los Blancos look destined to land their man for free, but this does not mean he will come cheap!

Kylian Mbappe has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and for obvious reasons, with the player having asked to leave for the Spanish capital last summer. The Frenchman did not get his dream move and was forced to remain in Paris, but the attacker's days at PSG are numbered.

The 2018 World Cup winner is in the final year of his contract, meaning he could leave the Ligue 1 giants for free in June. And leave, he will, according to BILD, with the German tabloid claiming the 23-year-old has reached an agreement with Los Blancos that will see him arrive at the Bernabeu next summer as a free agent.

The Spanish top-flight leaders' interest in Mbappe is well-documented. Florentino Perez's side even made a mega-money bid for the soon-to-be out-of-contract Frenchman a few months back, but saw that offer rejected. However, while a transfer fee won't be paid, this does not mean Mbappe's services won't come at a huge financial cost.

The German tabloid write that the aforementioned agreement with the speedy forward includes his wage package, with the former Monaco starlet set to pocket a whopping €50M gross per season, which equals roughly $56M. Not only would this double his current salary, but it would also make him the world's best-paid player.

What about PSG and their efforts to tie the player down to a new deal? According to the report, Les Parisiens have given up hope on extending Kylian's deal, meaning a summer departure is all but destined.

Things are made more interesting by Real Madrid's upcoming showdown with Pochettino's men in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Will the soon-to-be Los Merengues galactico eliminate his future employers from Europe's prestigious club competition? This remains unknown, but what is certain, as per Spanish publication Marca, is that this agreement will only be made official until after that match-up.
