Finalists of the last edition Senegal will go up against the tournament's most decorated side in search of their first continental title.

All eyes will be on the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde when Senegal take on Egypt in the final game of the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament that has spanned across the past month has lived up to expectation with numerous subplots also emerging to add to the entertainment served. It has been far from a stroll in the park for the two finalists involved, as the pair had to overcome different challenges against some of the competition's favorites to deservedly book their place. But the stakes are higher this time, as new chapters in history could be birthed regardless the outcome of the encounter.

For Senegal, it may be one last chance for their 'Golden Generation' to finally have something tangible to show for after a series of underwhelming campaigns. A majority of the current crop of talent were in the squad when an agonising 1-0 defeat to Algeria denied them their first continental trophy win in 2019 and, on Sunday, Aliou Cisse and his band will look to use the memory as motivation against another North Africa opponent.

The Lions of Teranga booked their final place by defeating Burkina Faso 3-1 in the semi-finals. This came on the back of winning Group B, before cruising past Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals respectively. Currently unbeaten in their last 12 appearances across all competitions, the West Africans will be poised to extend the run and will be counting on both their defense and attack to achieve this. In the six appearances they have made in the tournament so far, they have registered nine goals and have conceded just two.

With the above withstanding, the resolve of Senegal will definitely be tested when they come up against the most successful team in the AFCON's history. Unlike in successful editions in the past where the intent to win the trophy was apparent right from the start, the Egyptians have had a steady trajectory into the final. Although the reputation of the Pharaohs is well known across the continent, other big names were fancied to have a go at reaching the finals.

Nevertheless, the leadership of head coach Carlos Queiroz as well as skipper Mohamed Salah has set the North Africans on course to another unprecedented feat. A runners-up finish behind Nigeria in Group D was enough to set them up for a cracking Round of 16 clash with Ivory Coast which they emerged as victors via penalty shootout. They subsequently defeated Morocco in the quarterfinals before ending Cameroon's dream to host and win the tournament to book a spot in the final.
