The Lions of Terange finally got their hands on their first Africa Cup of Nations after beating Egypt on penalties in Sunday's final.

Despite being one of the greatest footballing teams in the continent, Senegal were made to wait an awfully long time to get their hands on the Africa Cup of Nations title. However, on Sunday, that wait finally came to an end, sparking joy like never before among the Lions of Teranga players, coaches, and fans.

Mane and Co. took on Egypt in the final, with the West African side beating the Pharaohs on penalties after playing out a nil-nil draw. Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Sadio were the stars of that final, with the Liverpool man scoring the decisive spot kick while the Chelsea goalkeeper and Napoli center-back kept Salah and Co. from at bay.

After the final whistle had been blown, the celebrations kicked off. Two moments in particular stood out, the first being the trophy-lifting ritual, which was utterly bizarre.

It is custom for the captain to be given the trophy on the pitch so he can join his fellow teammates on the podium in order to lift the title with his comrades. However, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and CAF boss Patrice Motsepe refused to hand over the prize straight away, instead escorting Koulibaly up the stands to join up with the president of Cameroon and other executives.

Fortunately, the Senegal captain showed his class as he refused to lift the trophy with men in suits. Instead, he merely shook hands with the aforementioned officials before taking the trophy back down the steps to rejoin his teammates. After that came the expected, but beloved, gatecrashing. Aliou Cissé, a man who endured Africa Cup of Nations heartbreak twice, once as a player and three years ago as a manager, was speaking to the press for the post-match conference when his players burst into the room to douse him in water.

Mane was named Player of the Tournament while fellow countryman Mendy was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Afterwards, both the Liverpool attacker and the manager sent out heartwarming messages to Senegalese people all across the world.
