What a difference six months can make. Following his collapse on the pitch during EURO 2020 and subsequent surgery last summer, many feared that Danish star Christian Eriksen would never play football again.
Inter opted to cancel his contract as Serie A rules prohibit players with certain implantable heart devices from playing for their teams - with fears that there could be major issues if the player suffers a blow to the chest area - leaving the 29-year-old former Tottenham man without a club to play for.
However, newly promoted Brentford decided to take a chance on him and signed him during the January transfer window. While he hasn't yet featured for his club in a competitive match, he's expected to make his long-awaited return to football soon as he returned to training last Monday.
And by chance, or a twist of fate, reports indicate that he bumped into Antonio Conte in a hotel recently. Interestingly, Conte not only coached Eriksen at Inter, during which the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto, but also is now in charge of his former club, Spurs.
When asked about the player, Conte appeared to sound positive about the possibility of collaborating again in the not too distant future.
"[Certainly], Eriksen is part of Tottenham's story [and to come back here would be a good opportunity for him, for me and for the club. But [as of] now he's signed for Brentford, so [we'll have to see] what happens."
