The City boss was full of praise for the English attacker following Saturday's performance but demanded more from Mahrez.

Pep Guardiola "has demanded more from Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez, labelling him "a little bit weak" in his work when competing for duels. The 30-year-old Algerian international was on target as Raheem Stering's hattrick inspired the Citiizens to a remarkable 4-0 win over Norwich at Carrow Road.

Mahrez was featured in the starting line up for the away trip but ended up extending a run of seven straight games without scoring against Norwich on Saturday. Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock in the 31st minute with a brilliant curler before completing his hat-rick with goals in the 70th and 90th minutes respectively. Inbetween, Phil Foden added to the Etihad outfit's advantage, scoring the game third.

In giving his post-match remarks, Pep Guardiola lauded Raheem Sterling for his memorable display and contribution. He subsequently extended it to Riyad Mahrez who was a shadow of the player he usually was  throughout the game. Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, he said; "He [Mahrez] is clever, he's a goalscorer. But sometimes I want more.

"Sometimes he's a little bit weak in the duels. We've known each other a long time and he knows the intentions we say to him is in a positive way."

Meanhile, following Sunday's result, City have now been victorious in 14 of their last 15 Premier League games. The Manchester club is gradually raising the bar, with 12 points separating them and second-placed Liverpool. The third position is occupied by Chelsea who are now behind on 16 points but have a game in hand. While City will be closer to retaining the title, Norwich remain in the relegation zone and have registered just one wins in 24 appearances.
