The defender fired the Red Devils in front at Elland Road with their first goal from a corner this season.

Manchester United fans went wild on Sunday afternoon after witnessing their side score from a corner-kick for the first time this season. After numerous unsuccessful attempts from the set-piece, the Red Devils finally got a goal thanks to Harry Maguire's thumping header against Leeds at Elland Road.

After dropping points in draws with Southampton and Burnley, Manchester United were eager to build on their mid-week triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion. It took Ralf Rangnick's men just 34 minutes to get the ball rolling, with Harry Maguire responding to calls to be stripped off his captaincy following a series of underwhelming performances in the best possible way.

The Manchester United captain, who received the backing of his side's interim manager ahead of the clash, smashed an impressive header past Illan Meslier of Leeds by finding space and meeting Luke Shaw's brilliant cross. The goal subsequently ended the Red Devils' hoodoo of failing to score a goal from a single corner-kick after 140 attempts.

Below is how fans reacted to Maguire's opener at Elland Road:

The momentum gained spurred Rangnick's men on to score their second goal right on the stroke of half time. This time, it was Bruno Fernandes who got on the scoresheet with an assidt from Jadon Sancho, making it two goals in two successive games. However, the job was far from over as two qucik fire goals by Rodrigo and Raphina in the early minutes of the second half will restore parity for Leeds.

Needless to say, the wet conditions at Elland Road could not keep the visitors at bay with substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga scoring later on to secure all three points for Manchester United.

Following the conclusion of the game, Maguire weighed in on being the man to break the drought after his side's inefficiency with corners. In his post-match remarks he said: "Embarrassing. Every time I see that stat [nearly 140 corners without a goal], I feel embarrassed myself. I'm a big part of that set-play routine and trying to score goals from corners. But, as a team, as a group, we've been nowhere near good enough.

"It's a big part of the game and for sure if we score more from corners and set-plays we'll be higher up the table. I know we can play all this pretty football, but set-plays are a massive part of the game for sure. This season, it has been nowhere near good enough on that behalf."
