Not surprisingly, there has been yet another shake-up in the league standings following this past weekend's results.

Another round of matches is in the books, with the only remaining game to complete matchday 27 taking place as Atalanta and Sampdoria will square off on Monday evening. However, all of the big teams have played their respective fixtures, and given how close things are in the battle for the Scudetto, a new league leader has emerged following this weekend's games.

Here's a quick summary of what went down this weekend across Italy's top flight.

Serie A rankings as of February 28

Here's how the top five looks after the latest round of matches. Napoli have now reclaimed top spot following their win over Lazio on Sunday, while both Milan and Inter were frustrated as they were held to draws with struggling Udinese and Genoa respectively. Atalanta may still be hanging on to a top five spot, but unless if the minnows can turn things around, they'll eventually be overtaken by Roma, Lazio, and potentially Fiorentina.

Who are the top three goalscorers in Serie A?

Here's how things are shaping up in the race for the Capocannoniere. Giovanni Simeone, the son of Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone, netted a hat-trick as Hellas Verona earned a win over Venezia to try to close the gap on the top two. Ciro Immobile has been overtaken now by Dusan Vlahovic, and it looks like it's going to be a close battle between the Italian and the Serbian for the coveted prize.

1. Dusan Vlahovic, Juventus - 20 goals

2. Ciro Immobile, Lazio - 19 goals

3. Giovanni Simeone, Hellas Verona - 15 goals

Serie A headlines, stats, and other facts

Simeone writes his name in the history books: Giovanni Simeone's name will be well familiar to many people as he's the son of none other than Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. However, the young player is doing his best to try to carve out his own identity, independent of his father's shadow. This past weekend, he netted a hat-trick as Hellas Verona earned a 3-1 win over Venezia in the Veneto Derby (Venice Derby). In doing so, he's now the first player to score a hat-trick this derby for Hellas Verona, and only the second overall do to so in a Serie A derby clash between two Venice-based teams. The last was Sergio Brighenti, who scored three for Padova against Vicenza in May 1959.

Roma leave it VERY late against Spezia: Tammy Abraham once again came to the rescue for the Giallorossi, who looked set to have to settle for a very frustrating draw against a stubbornly defensive Spezia side. However, the English international's goal was enough to give Jose Mourinho's men a much-needed win, and not only does it make it 12 Serie A goals for him, but also his goal, which was scored in the 98th minute, is the latest goal for the Lupi in their entire Serie A history.

Rafael Leão joins a very small (and unique) club...: The Portuguese international was on target for Milan last Friday, and although it wasn't enough to prevent the Rossoneri from dropping points in a one-all draw with Udinese, he's now the second player to have scored a goal on every single day of the calendar week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). The only other player to have done this for Milan is Andriy Shevchenko.

...and Vlahovic, too: The Serbian striker was on target against Empoli for the weekend, which brings his total to 20 goals, and in doing so, becomes only the second player in Serie A history to score against the Azzurri while playing for two teams in one season. This was first achieved by Krzysztof Piatek, who netted against Empoli while playing for Genoa and AC Milan during the 2018/19 term.

Top Serie A matches: March 4 - March 6, 2022

Inter vs Salernitana: On paper, this should present a golden opportunity for Inter to get a pretty straightforward win, but the Nerazzurri won't be taking this game too lightly. It wasn't too long ago that struggling Salernitana managed to draw Milan, and more important, Inter have already experienced their fair share of frustrations against small teams like Sassuolo and more recently, Genoa.

Moreover, they'll be coming into this game having played Milan in the Coppa Italia, so Stefano Inzaghi will need to manage his personnel accordingly in order to pick up a win this weekend and to also put themselves in good stead for the Coppa Italia tie. With Milan facing Napoli in a game that one or both teams will drop points, Inter will naturally look to take advantage of that and resume their spot on top of the table.

Roma vs Atalanta: It wasn't easy, but Roma were able to get a vital win thanks to Abraham's late penalty. Now they'll host Atalanta and given how poor La Dea have been lately, this is a great chance for the Lupi to potentially dislodge Atalanta from fifth spot and make a serious case for a Europa League berth for next term. Although the Bergamo outfit do have a game in hand, a win this weekend will certainly help boost Roma's chances of securing Europa League football for the upcoming 2022/23 season.

Juventus vs Spezia: Although unbeaten in their last five, Juventus have won just two of those, and they will naturally look to try to at least try to close the gap between themselves and the top three by beating Spezia this weekend. Yet, it may be a lot easier said than done, as the Aquilotti, who are in their sophomore term in the top flight, have pulled off some surprise results this season.

Napoli vs Milan: Another big clash is on the cards as two Scudetto contenders will do battle on Sunday evening. Napoli recently took on reigning Scudetto champs Inter, with the match finishing as a draw, and all eyes will be on this game to see if the Partenopei will have better luck against Inter's cross-town rivals. Meanwhile, Milan will be eager to get back to winning ways after their very frustrating draw with Udinese last time out. However, man-management will be essential as Stefano Pioli's men will arrive in Naples having played against Inter in the Coppa Italia mid-week.
