The pair were jeered throughout Sunday afternoon's Ligue 1 encounter following the mid-week's Champions League fiaso.

Paris Saint-Germain pair Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr endured a tough afternoon at Parc des Princes after being subjected to boos and ironic cheers during Sunday's league clash with Bordeaux. The pair, unlike the rest of the squad, were met with a hostile reception and the backlash which eclipsed the 3-0 win was said to be as a result of Wednesday night's Champions League capitulation.

PSG successfully extended their lead in the domestic league to 15 points after beating the lowly-ranked Bordeaux 3-0 at home. Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr and Leandro Parades were the three men who secured the win for the host with their goals, although the atmosphere was barely welcoming enough for them to perform to the best of their ability.

While Kylian Mbappe was spared, Lionel Messi and Neymar were the two standout individuals who were whistled at and heavily booed before kick-off when the stadium announcer read out their names. During the game, they were given the same reception with every touch of the ball they took. On Wednesday, the two players were involved in the Champions League meeting with Real Madrid but were barely efficient as Mbappe stole the show once more by scoring with Neymar's pass at the Bernabeu.

Ultimately, the goal proved inadequate with Karim Benzema's second half hat-trick handing Real Madrid a 3-2 aggregate win and earning them safe passage into the quarter-finals of the European cup competition. The turn of events has since left the PSG fanbase frustrated, and was the reason for the hostile reception given to both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr on Sunday. To many, the former Barcelona teammates have failed to justify their lucrative transfer fees and contracts as they were seen as the missing pieces needed by the French club to finally get their hands on the Champions League trophy.

In the aftermath of the Sunday's league game, Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez took to their respective social media accounts to back their former Barcelona teammates.

Neymar has recently been linked with an exit from Paris, and Messi is also thought to be extremely unhappy at the French club. However, none of the players has been linked with a switch back to Barcelona although the Spanish club has often kept the door open for their probable return.
