The English striker entered the Premier League's record books after coming under scrutiny for producing a terrible miss.

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane managed the best recovery possible after missing a gilt-edged chance to break the deadlock in Wednesday night meeting with Brighton. The 28-year-old striker inspired his side to a remarkable 2-0 win at the Amex Stadium, breaking Wayne Rooney's record for the most-away goals scored by a player in the Premier League's history.

A massive blunder on the part of the Brighton defense and goalkeeper gifted Kane with the chance to put Spurs in front inside the first five minutes of the proceeding. However, the striker, after successfully snatching the ball off the feet of Robert Sanchez, could not direct his shot on goal.

Watch:

Needless to say, he successfully atoned for the poor miss by producing the all-important second goal for Antonio Conte's men in the second half. Earlier, Cristiano Romero had put the visitors in front after Dejan Kulusevski's strike took a deflection off and managed to beat Sanchez in the Brighton post.

In retrospect, Harry Kane has now scored 95 goals in 139 appearances away from home in the Premier League, breaking Wayne Rooney's record and becoming the competition's all-time top scorer in away games. He landed the feat by making 104 appearances fewer than the former Manchester United superstar.

As things stand, the England international has also scored more Premier League goals than Frank Lampard with the goal at the Amex taking his total tally to 176. He is now into the competition's top five all-time top-scorers with only Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, and Wayne Rooney having more goals than him.

Tottenham's charge to fight for a top-four place was also significantly boost with Wednesday night's result. With a game in hand, the North London club is currently three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal who also have two games in hand after their defeat to Liverpool.
