The Italian boss was one of the main culprits for Los Blancos' defeat against Barcelona, and the first option to replace the tactician has emerged.

The end result of El Clásico caused quite a stir among football fans and experts across the globe, and one of the protagonists of Real Madrid's woeful night was undoubtedly Carlo Ancelotti. The now under-fire boss admitted he was the man to blame for his team's poor display, and with criticism around him growing by the minute due to their disappointing game against Los Culés, there are some who believe that his time at the Bernabeu could be over when the season comes to an end.

With that in mind, experts and supporters have started to think who could fill the void left by Ancelotti if Florentino Pérez decided to sack him. The first reports and discussions on the internet led to one man, a former Real Madrid player who would bring some new ideas to the team for what could be an exciting time for Los Blancos if Kylian Mbappé is hired by the Spanish side. The name of the former midfielder? Xabi Alonso.

The 40-year-old coach retired from professional football after the 2016-17 season, and starting his coaching career as a member of Real Madrid's youth categories. Alonso would go on to join Real Sociedad "B" before the 2019-20 campaign, leading the Txuri-urdin side to the Spanish Segunda División. Alonso's record as coach after 88 games shows 37 wins, 22 draws, and 29 losses, with his team showing an attacking style of football since he took over.

Alonso's potential appointment is seen by many as a good choice following the raging success they had after appointing an unexperienced Zinedine Zidane as their manager six years ago. Nevertheless, some believe that the former midfielder should take a more relevant coaching task before being handed the Spanish side's managerial duties.

Alonso's contract with Real Sociedad B expires this summer, and he is expected to determine his future when the season comes to an end. The option of having him around to groom him as Ancelotti's assistant or as first team coach due to his legend status with Los Blancos seems tempting to some, but only time will tell if Alonso believes it is a good idea to lead Los Merengues with no experience in top-tier football as a manager.
