The Reds held their own to deny their title rivals the chance to stretch their lead further.

Liverpool have ended Man City's streak of winning every game in which they scored first this season by holding the  Pep Guardiola's side to a draw at Etihad on Sunday. The Reds drew level after going behind on two occasions, ending the afternoon's encounter with a 2-2 draw as the host held onto their slender lead atop the table.

The pulsating draw began with Kevin De Bruyne firing City in front inside the first five minutes after his shot on goal deflected off Joel Matip to beat Allisson Becker in the Liverpool post. Eight minutes later parity was restored by Diogo Jota after being set-up by Trent-Akexander Arnold. Gabriel Jesus then ended his goalscoring drought by beating an offside trap and restoring his side's lead nine minutes before the half time break.

In the second half, Liverpool had the perfect start as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will combine to draw the game level once more. However, the Liverpool defense was breached once more and it almost seemed as though Man City were going to emerge as the winners where Raheem Sterling latched onto Kevin De Bruyne's brilliant through ball and slotted it under Allisson. The goal was subsequently ruled out when a check by the Video Assistant Referee revealed that Sterling was offside in the build-up.

With the game ending fair and square, Liverpool became the first club to prevent Man City from securing the maximum three points in a league game this season after scoring first. Tthey had previously won 22 such games. On the contrary, Liverpool found themselves trailing at the break for the first time in the Premier League this season.
