The most anticipated game of the 2021-22 Premier league season unfolded at the Etihad Stadium. The home side's early press paid off when Kevin De Bruyne made the best of a surprise solo effort to make it 1-0 in the sixth minute. However, celebrations were cut short by Diogo Jotta, who culminated a well-orchestrated combination of passes with a goal in the 12th minute. Gabi Jesus surprised the Reds' backline with a well-timed second post run and first-time finish over Allison and into the goal. Man City led at halftime 2-1, but Liverpool spoiled the party in the first minute of the second half. Sadio Mane got the best of Kyle Walker with speed and finished a one-on-one with Ederson.
USA Network's Premier League broadcast on Sunday scored a 0.40 viewership rating after it averaged 1,088,000 viewers, topping soccer viewership in the USA last week.
Real Madrid's 3-1 win against Chelsea at Stanford Bridge on Wednesday was the second most-watched soccer game in the USA last week. CBS' Champions League quarterfinal first-leg encounter between The Blues and Los Blancos averaged 850,000 viewers and scored a 0.54 viewership rating. Frenchman Karim Benzema scored a hattrick that gave Real Madrid the cushion needed to come up on top in the second leg.
Tottenham burried Aston Villa 4-0 at Villa Park on Saturday. NBC screened the Premier League match, which ended up as third most-viewed game in the country last week.
