The Egyptian ace has not scored from open play since February 199, a worrying stat which the German boss discussed.

Liverpool have entered the final and most crucial hurdle in their 2021/22 season. With only a few games left before the campaign ends, the Reds look to maintain their push for the quadruple, starting off with the FA Cup.

The Merseyside giants are preparing for the semifinal round, with Klopp’s men set to take on none other than bitter rivals Manchester City on Saturday. This game comes just a week after the two powerhouses locked horns in the Premier League, with that tie ending in a 2-2 draw.

All eyes will be on this FA Cup clash as the Reds look to get the better of Guardiola’s men at Wembley. Unfortunately, one of their key players hasn’t been in the best of forms leading up to this battle.

That player is none other than Mohamed Salah. Despite being the club’s top scorer this season, the Egyptian superstar has run into a goalscoring drought recently, having failed to score from open play since February 19. In last Sunday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium, the former Roma ace set up Sadio Mane for the equalizer but failed to put Ederson under threat himself.

In fact, the 29-year-old has scored only six times in 2022 for club, which isn’t impressive by his world-class standards. Klopp addressed this situation ahead of Saturday’s clash with Man City, with the German boss leaping to his player’s defense, publicly backing his talisman forward to enjoy a strong finish to the season.

“Yeah, yeah. It’s just in our business the problem we have is that in January he had the most intense period in his whole career.," Jurgen told reporters, as per Goal.

“The [AFCON] tournament went until the wire. They [Egypt] played in the final, they had all these 120 minutes, the role he has is super, super massive. There is a huge responsibility on his shoulders with dressing room meetings and stuff like this with no recovery at all.

“Then you have the issue of being a superstar in your own country and everyone wanting something from you. It is all super intense. Again – that is ok for the boys. But now we are in a period where there is no down (time?) and that is completely normal.

“A player like Mo who likes to dribble – and he is really good, he scored outstanding goals with dribbling. Do I say to him ‘don’t dribble?’ No! It is dribble in the right moments and keep the ball, keep it simple – all these kind of things.

“But the boys here are focused every day. I know that Mo will finish strong. It’s just at the moment we have to reset because each game for us is a final.”

Despite a dip in form, Salah remains well on his way to another Premier League Golden Boot. The North African sensation has 20 goals under his belt in the English top-flight, with Son (17) being his nearest rival. A goal or two at Wembley against Manchester City would easily make everyone forget about this talking point.
