A record number of fans attended this Camp Nou affair as the Spanish giants thrashed their German rivals 5-1 in the first leg of their semifinal affair.

The growth of women's football continues at a meteoric rate as a record number of fans attended Friday's UEFA Women's Champions League showdown between Barcelona and Wolfsburg.

Unsurprisingly, this occurred at the Camp Nou, which held the previous record, as a whopping 91,648 spectators attended the first leg semifinal clash between two of Europe's best teams, thus officially becoming the largest matchday crowd for a women's club football match. Check out the jaw-dropping attendance in the tweets below.

The previous record was set at the Catalan giants' iconic home ground last month when the Primera Iberdrola leaders beat bitter rivals Real Madrid 5-2 (8-3 on aggregate) in this very same competition. Alexia Putellas and Co. enjoyed a second consecutive huge win, thrashing Wolfsburg 5-1 in the first leg of their semifinal affair, thus scoring five times inside 90 minutes in two consecutive games.

The Ballon d'Or winner emerged from Friday's thrilling encounter with a brace as four different Barcelona players got their names on the scoresheet within the first half. The Spanish sensation, who is currently the UEFA Women's Champions League top scorer with 10 goals, completed her brace in the second half courtesy of a late penalty.

Speaking after the game, Blaugranes midfielder Patricia Guijarro spoke in awe not only due to the result, but due to the atmosphere as well as the Camp Nou was sold out.

"We are very happy not just for the result but also for the atmosphere at the stadium. It is spectacular that we have set a new record," Guijarro said, as per AP News

"What happened today and a month ago has left us speechless. As the days, or the years go by, we will understand better what has happened. Right now we have not completely grasped the magnitude of this experience."

Jill Roord got a consolation goal for the German giants, but with the Spanish outfit commanding a huge lead, it's hard to see them throwing away their advantage. As a result, Barcelona have one foot in the final, where they will face one of Lyon or PSG.
