Ten Hag wants to strengthen the defense, midfield, and attack. However, the Red Devils are eyeing “an evolution rather than revolution of the squad”.

Despite claims from Ralf Rangnick that Manchester United are in need of 10 new signings, the English giants look to address their rebuild in a calm and steady manner.

With Erik ten Hag set to arrive at Old Tafford at the end of the season, an overhaul of the squad is the end goal. However, according to ESPN, the Red Devils hierarchy are prioritizing "an evolution rather than revolution of the squad".

What does this mean? Instead of 10 new additions, the 20-time English champions are planning to sign three new players this summer ahead of Ten Hag's debut season. The Dutchman will be given a hefty budget for the upcoming transfer window, rumored to be somewhere between £100M and £150M, but the Theatre of Dreams recruitment department are focused on only three incomings.

Three names were mentioned in that report, two of which are center-backs, as the club look to bolster their defense. One currently plays for Ajax and that is Jurrien Timber, a player Ten Hag is familiar with, while Villarreal ace Pau Torres is also on their radar.

The other target mentioned is none other than Darwin Nunez, the highly-rated Benfica striker who is being watched by Liverpool and Arsenal as well. However, the Portuguese giants are reportedly holding out for an exuberant fee, with the Eagles demanding nothing less than €130M for the 22-year-old.

Ten Hag is also keen on strengthening the midfield, with the likes of Ruben Neves, Declan Rice, and Aurélien Tchouaméni all being linked to Old Trafford. Whether they can afford any of the aforementioned players is an area of concern, however. Additionally, the manager has highlighted David de Gea and his inability to play it out from the back as a worry, but as of now, a goalkeeper isn't their most pressing issue.

The focus won't solely be on incomings as Manchester United look to clear out several players as well. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata will all leave this summer once their contracts end while Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial, Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will all be put for sale.
