A Liga MX side and a Major League Soccer club lock horns in the first of two matches that will determine the supremacy in CONCACAF.

It's time to find out who the winners of the 2021-22 CONCACAF Champions League will be, with the first of two matches between Pumas UNAM and Seattle Sounders taking place this Wednesday.

The Mexican side made it to the title match with only one loss in their six matches in the competition. The team from Mexico City started their run in the tournament with a 6-3 aggregate win against Saprissa, which would be followed up by their toughest tie in the competition, which saw them draw in aggregate 3-3 against the New England Revolution. Eventually, Pumas would go on to win after penalties. Their semi-final match concluded with a 2-1 win over fellow Liga MX side Cruz Azul, which only had goals in the first leg and concluded with a goalless draw in the return match.

Pumas will try to follow up on the legacy established by Liga MX teams, who have won the most titles in tournament history. Los Universitarios have not been able to win this title since 1989, and their last appearance in the tournament final came in 2005, which makes it the only one of Mexico's "Big Four" not to win the CONCACAF crown in the 21st Century.

On the other hand, the Sounders enter this game with an unbeaten record of three wins and three draws in their six matches of the tournament. The MLS side defeated Motagua with an emphatic 5-0 aggregate in the Round of 16, which they followed up by beating Club León 4-1. Their semi-final tie against New York City FC ended in a 4-2 win, good enough to seal their spot in the finals. So far, Brian Schmetzer's team has only conceded twice when playing away from home in this competition.

The green and blue side are looking to end a 22-year-drought for MLS clubs without a title in CONCACAF tournaments. Previously, the LA Galaxy (2000) and the DC United (1998) were the only teams from that league to win this crown, while three more American clubs have succumbed in their attempt to win this title, every time against a Mexican rival. This is the team's first appearance in the final and their second time among the final four, following their 2013 run that ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Liga MX club Santos Laguna.

Here are the key elements we have to consider prior to the start of this exciting game.
