The Nerazzurri are on the brink of losing grip of their Scudetto charge following Wednesday's shock defeat.

The race for the Scudetto shifted hands to AC Milan as Bologna shocked Inter Milan in Wednesday night's Serie A encounter. The hosts secured the all important three points by capitalising on a massive defensive blunder the Nerrazzuri's second-choice goalkeeper Ionuț Radu to secure a 2-1 win.

The fixture was a rescheduled Week 20 encounter from January 6 where a number of reported COVID-19 cases among the Bologna squad led the FA to postpone the clash. AC Milan's comeback win over Lazio last weekend had lifted them above their crosstown rivals and a win for the latter would have restored them right back at the top.

In the night's encounter the defending champions had the ideal start, breaking the deadlock inside the first four minutes through Ivan Perisic's stunner. However, Bologna were pulled right back into the game when Arnautovic leaped past everyone to nod a Musa Barrow cross into the far bottom corner in the 28th minute. In the 81st minute, Inter had their night going from bad to worse.

Radu went to control a ball from a throw-in with his feet and ended up kicking it back towards his goal. Bologna's Nicola Sansone then reacted quickly to simply tap-in from a yard to hand his side the advantage. Out of desperation Inter chased for an equaliser almost got it but for a last-ditch clearance off the line that denied D'Ambrosio's a late equaliser.

With the result, AC Milan maintained a two-point advantage at the top of the table. With just four more games to go, the Rossoneri have 74 points while their rivals have accumulated 72 from the 34 games they have featured in thus far.
